This project was awarded an Evanston Preservation Award encompassed the restoration of the front facade of a historic 1890 Evanston, Illinois landmark, one of the only residential projects designed by Solon Beman, the architect-designer of the Pullman community and several other notable Chicago landmark buildings, including the Grand Central Station and the Studebaker Fine Arts Building.

The facade restoration included replacing the existing thirty-year old open concrete staircase and wrought-iron railing with a new roofed main entry porch and stairway that were architecturally compatible with the rest of the home. Our design took its cues from the architectural style and details of the original Beman house, including matching the pitch of the main roof, heavy wood post-and-beam construction, stucco for the porch and solid railings, and applied half-timber wood trim.

Subsequent projects for the same clients included remodeling of the 1st Floor kitchen and family room and the 2nd Floor bedrooms and baths, as well as the design of a home office within the enclosed 2nd Floor porch.
